Recovery and healing
In the time of writing, we are still emerging from COVID-19. Each one of us would have been affected in some way. Many articles have been written in the last 12 months on touch and how important touch is for us. Scientific research into something called ‘Affective Touch’, a specific way of delivering strokes that researchers have found to connect with a part of the brain that is related to compassion and a sense of social connection. From my work in an NHS in-patient setting, feedback from patients who have had Biodynamic Massage have variously said that they felt more reconnected to themselves, that they felt calmed and in some cases, people experienced a reduction in pain and in some instances, visible reduction in swelling. What we can do together in recovery and healing depends on what you and your body need. The way I approach recovery and healing work is to find a way of reconnecting with the person and their potential to restore order, balance, harmony and flow and to experience the return of aliveness and love.
I am trained in Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork and I have incorporated ScarWork into Biodynamic Massage Therapy. ScarWork is a specific way of working with scars and adhesions. I am also trained in SourcePoint Therapy which works well with Biodynamic to help restore and heal.
